Functionality

 

The unconnected reader is a small hand-held and battery operated device with a numeric keypad, a display and a chip reader. The device is intended for stand-alone usage.

 

The device supports following functions:

  • A challenge-based authentication function and a one-time authentication function, based on the Bancontact/MisterCash R4 smart card EMV functionality

  • The MasterCard Chip Authentication Program (CAP), also supported by Visa

Additionally this reader will also allow to check the card's Proton balance, where applicable.

 

 

Important Note

 

Certificates are contractual documents between terminal vendors and EPCI. This page  only represents a list of certificates and it is possible that not all certificates are included in this list. The final proof is the certificate itself.

The user can verify if the device is certified by requesting the device to display the EPCI number. This should number should match with the information displayed above.
