EMV Migration |

Credit card terminals accepting transactions on
the basis of the mag-stripes and cardholders signature identification will be
subject to a major overhaul as smart readers and secure pinpad will have to be
fitted. The application supporting the card transactions is much more complex
and will require more capacity from the terminal. Commercial documentation often
mentions that payment terminals have an EMV Level 1 and / or Level 2
certification. These generic certifications need to be complemented with a
specific EPCI certification process to allow operations with the credit card
companies migrating to EMV. In doubt, please contact your credit card company or
EPCI.

| Our Mission |
Founded in 1998 and operational since
April 1999, the Institute
acts as a service provider to card scheme managers and acquirers that are
acquiring transactions with the help of payment terminals.
In this framework, EPCI
has two principal roles:
Both
processes are described in a contract signed between the vendor
and EPCI.
Once the vendor has passed the certification procedure, he will be
able to offer its products to merchant's community having signed acquiring
agreements with the card scheme managers. |

Company Profile |
|
The
institute is established as a non-profit centre (Association
Sans But Lucratif, Vereniging
Zonder Winstoogmerk). It is controlled by a board of
banks issuing cards from the Bancontact/MisterCash scheme for the domestic debit card
and from the Proton scheme for the electronic purse.
EPCI is managing
the terminal certification process. The actual
certification work is done by external labs that have the appropriate
accreditation.
For the
debit card scheme Bancontact-MisterCash and the
Purse Card Scheme Proton, the initial funding was brought in by the issuing
banks and they still support EPCI.
S ince
2001, the terminal certification process is extended to credit card acquirers:
Atos Worldline (Bank Card Company), Elavon, Europabank, American Express and Diners
Club. This process was further extended to JCB International, Cetelem giee-eesv
(Aurora), European Merchant Services BV (NL) and B+S Card Services (DE), Paysquare (NL)
and European Payment Solutions (Payfair scheme).
